African Studies

The Institute of African Studies at Emory offers an active community of scholars and a lively focus of activity to persons interested in Africa. It has fourteen core faculty members drawn from the College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Law and the School of Public Health. An associated faculty of twenty-two is drawn from the School of Arts and Sciences and other divisions of the university. The Institute promotes interdisciplinary teaching and research on Africa, administers an undergraduate minor and, as of Fall 2004, a new major. The Institute also coordinates graduate training in African Studies at Emory. The Institute runs an on-going seminar in African studies, hosts visiting African scholars, and regularly sponsors conferences, exhibitions, and special events on Africa. With its resources and activities, the Institute of African Studies encourages and supports rich and diverse Africanist teaching, scholarship, and outreach.
